  • dbanner the project is not dead, just needs little push. I still haven't give up on in, in fact I will spend some time this week.

    • Hello dbanner, you have collected the device according to the scheme post №130? everything works or is this not the final version? Do you have video work? with respect.

      • i started to build the gs 5 about four months ago from the posted schematic and got about half way through the project..i used small modules to link together so i can fit detector in an abs tube...the main problem i can see is the setting up which i hope i can sort out...i guess it will take some time and patience.
i have a few projects to complete through the winter for the next summer beach season.

        • KT315 thank you for your suggestions. Believe me, I am not professional like you but maybe I will try to use what u suggest. I just don't have the time right now to learn new software. My first objective is to have a working prototype of this detector using my layout then I will know what to do next.

          • dbanner, if you ever migrate to other software you should consider DipTrace as it's begginer friendly, also it has free trial version and free version for small projects.
            http://diptrace.com/download-diptrace/

There's few converters able to migrate your existing CAD schematic to DipTrace so.

I've got few GS project boards on order, done with DipTrace, order 1/2 arriving today:
Those are different MCU based (32bit/8Bit CPUs), also analog (default GS4/5) frontend, one of them has mickstv 4046 audio, the other has GS4 audio, the other has PWM based audio section and so on. Basicly a SOUP for Goldscans.
None of them are following the original drawings.

            • Wow! Very nice indeed. I have full version of proteus, diptrace and many others i downloaded from uloz.to but never had the time to tinker. I am electronics repair technician and this takes up most of my time. But I see you have been very busy developing your project. The thread maybe quiet but people are working. Here are my two home built detectors, a surf pi, and baracuda.

              • It's quiet cos it takes time
I already had drawn GS4 when this topic was started, did the GS5 part after that.
On a separate board I was working on SD2000 with MCU which I decided to move the design to GS5 as separate project so now I ended up with whole mix of board projects (8Bit cpu, 32 bit cpu, all analog design and that goes for GS4 and GS5) and it's hard to keep track which one is which - in total I've ordered 6 separate boards for the goldscan JUST because now there's huge discount from China PCB company with free DHL shipping

                • I have never ordered boards before. Are gerber files used to order boards? Are there any special rules when desingning a layout for gerber export like min. track width and hole diameter etc. that are specific to pcb company? Is there any tutorial on this?

                  • All companies have oportunity to create your boards, design specifications are normally min track distance/width of 0.125mm and drill 0.3mm which is more than enough.
Boards usually cost 3-5 times more if they are larger than 100x100 which is always limiting factor for me (i can create better design if the the board is larger than 100x100, for example I found out 80x120 to be very nice for me but this costs way more!)

DHL just delivered first 3 batch, total turnaround 5 Days!

I can guide you for Diptrace export cos it's really easy, other CADs I don't use.

I use sprint layout and plates overlap for lack of space
                          Here is what you started,
                          I continued,
I combined what I found and I hope to be ok..
