    • Hi everybody,
I read all the pages here.. Ivconic as always you did great experiments and find out the sad truth: I did not made this project but I'm also interested in the source code.. cause it's smart stuff; the analog part , as you said and I totally agree, just sucks.
It suffers from the very same problem of other powerful PIs on some kind of soils.

The iranian author of code, Hamid, is for sure a smart man, with great experience on MCUs programming, I do agree, so congrats to him for the code that is good work.

This project reminds me when I made the Goldscan IV clone on the schematic provided by Alexis, cause of you guys are experiencing bad with pottery and bricks with this PI, false signals, noise, instabilities and the like.
I have to say that Goldscan IV is a superior design by Eric Foster, very sophisticated analog one, though I cannot get it work properly on my preferred searchfields and I tried a lot before giving up on this. Just perfomed well on other sites (no pottery) or beaches and that's all.
The fact is that PIs in general are very powerful but very very sensitive to hot rocks and fired clay, bricks and whatever has inside magnetic dipoles oriented.. in GS IV the problem is so severe that it's almost impossible to use it on some fields (though a partial discrimination could be made on some of these target up to small size like a cigarette box). The problem is that in some areas like mine you have bricks all around, and layers of pieces of that stuff deep in the soil up to 1 meter! In these cases PIs are almost useless.. even the most sophisticated ones.

That said, PIs like this are good for experimenting, cause schematic is easy and can be modified and improved easy too: code is the real issue here. It is needed for real progresses, otherwise it will remains one of many 'closed' projects and will loose people interest soon.

I wish you all an Happy New Year!
      Max

          • Hello Max!
            Long time no see!
Happy New Year to You and all other people with good intentions on the world!
            ...
Yes, seems it is designed to work well only on simple soils, sandy deserts in this particular case.
I guess author had unique conditions to test each segment of code and it's behavior in process of designing it.
On uniform soil with same compound this detector most probably may be adjusted optimally and give constant good performances.

              • I just want to give a tip for anyone having trouble with this machine..if you are using the specified opamp but still you dont get closer to this numbers 300-700-800, and also you cannot have proper discrimination, and poor detection all that problem is 80% because your of your coil.. I had made about 8 kinds of coil of different specs and im lucky atlast at the last one.. I can now properly discriminate, i can now have an excllent detection 6" for a scrap 1n4148 scrap diode with 28cm coil, and i can now hunt to mniralized ground. All of my past coil work best detection in air but failed in real ground but for now i succed. Thanks koohyar for this great machine.

                • Dear jladre

Could you please share with us the parameters (wire type; wire diameter; insulation type; number of turns; resistance in ohms; impedance in microHenries; shielded or not shielded, etc.) for the last coil you built that you say was good for discrimination and good on mineralized ground?
Also please give us the detection distance (in air) for a 1 Euro coin. Note that a 1 Euro coin is generally used as a reference for comparison in most of the Metal Detecting forums.
For example, my Delta pulse 2+ detector that I built more than 3 years ago was able to detect 1 Euro coin (in air) at a distance of 35 cm. This seems to be a 'standard' distance obtained by the 'best' home-made pulse induction detectors such as the Delta Pulse 2+ and some experimenters have reported this same detection distance with the PIM-2 at some other metal detecting forums such as Lugatek, TeknolojiEkibi etc.

                  Good luck...

                  Ciao

Hi Speedy_G! My coil is similar for chance pi coil. It is made of copper wire 20awg, 28cm diameter, .7 ohm, 248uH.,can detect 1 euro at 35-38 cm, and scrap 1n4148 diode at 12-15 cm.. Before with my other 7 coil i have diffuculty in miniraluze soil ciz i need to down the sensitivity to 8 or even to 2 but mow i can hunt with 15 and i have also good discrimination. Photo below is not the exact coil but just a similar.

                          • Dear samii

Please don't propagate or re-distribute erroneous hex files as this only causes more confusion within our metal detecting community.
We already have a certain amount of 'confusion' of facts regarding the construction of our metal detectors due to some language translation difficulties e.g. from turkish, spanish etc. to english (often using Google Translate).

The correct format in a hexadecimal file is that every line ALWAYS begins with a colon : ... This is rule number 1.
                            For example...
